Hobbies

As I work on my hobbies (mostly embedded systems stuff), I'll post my work on this page.

I integrated my camera phone into my blog. Now I can take pictures on my phone, email them from my phone to my blog software, and the blog software posts the photo to my blog. Here's an example of such a post: who needs a kwik-e-mart?.

A recent project was a serial controller for my television. My television is a Samsung HL-R5668W HD DLP (also known as HLR5668W). What's cool about the HL-R5668W for hobbyists is it comes with a RS-232 serial port on the back that allows it to be controlled by an external computer. Pretty much whatever you can do with a remote control you can do over the serial link. I wrote the hardware interface driver along with a test program. It works. I'm not quite sure what to do with it yet.

A past project was to hook my desk lamp and web cam up to the web. So that users (you) could turn the lamp on and off. By all accounts it was cool. Unfortunately, it was torn down when I moved in 2002.

My next project is to allow users (you) to upload MP3's to my portable MP3 player, via the web. So that I have a fresh set of songs each time I go out to run.
